How To Get Here
STEP 1
Landing In Costa Rica
The closest airport is Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR) next to Liberia, located about 1 hour away by car. It connects to many international flights from North America.
From there, you can rent a vehicle, take a taxi, or book a private shuttle directly to Potrero (more information below).
STEP 2
From Liberia To Potrero
Route 21 (1hr-1.30hrs)
From the airport, the safest and smoothest way to get to Potrero is by taking the route 21 in direction for Belén. Take Route 155 after Belén, until you reach Huacas. Then route 188 will take you past Brasilito and Flamingo and you'll reach Playa Potrero in no time.
The Monkey Trail (40-60 mins)
There is more adventurous route, the "Monkey Trail," which offers a shortcut between Liberia and Potrero. While this route is faster, it is often very bumpy and has a small river crossing (often passable in dry season with a 4x4 vehicle) at Congo Trail. A private toll bridge is open during the day and charges a small fee (usually around ₡5,000 CRC or $10 USD).
Airport Shuttle
Getting to and from the airport is simple with private shuttles from Liberia Airport. It’s a comfortable and reliable way to travel, so you can start or end your trip stress-free.
Rates: $120 (1-4 people) + $20 per additional passenger.
+ $20 is charged for late-night pick-ups (between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM).
